I-IDEA & QDC Values

I-IDEA Co-Directors: Fiona Gray and Maya Middleton

Upholding I-IDEA

The Indigeneity, Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (I-IDEA) role continues to play an important part in how QDC supports its members. Our I-IDEA Co-Directors work to ensure that every member feels safe, supported, and celebrated for who they are, while also encouraging ongoing dialogue about how QDC can continue to improve. We always welcome your questions, ideas, and feedback as we continue to work together to make QDC a place where every dancer belongs. You can reach us through our email or the anonymous feedback form found below.

I-IDEA at QDC

Indigeneity - Acknowledging that Queen’s University is situated on Indigenous land and recognizing the privilege of learning and playing on these grounds. This is done through regular land acknowledgements and active listening to learn from Indigenous communities and perspectives.

Inclusivity - Creating a space that strives for all to feel welcomed and accepted as valued members of the club, through the use of respectful communication and encouraged participation to maintain a supportive environment.

Diversity - Recognizing that each member has unique traits that should be celebrated amongst the QDC space, through the use of positive, uplifting language and the dedication to ongoing learning of diverse perspectives and identities.

Equity - Understanding that individuals may require different amounts and levels of support to reach the same outcome. This is encouraged through supporting individual unique needs, whilst advocating for equitable opportunities for all.

Accessibility - Ensuring that all members of the club have equitable access to club resources and facilities to be able to fully participate as a QDC member, through removing barriers to accessibility and the encouragement of feedback to refine spaces.

QDC Values

At QDC, we want to maintain a safe and accessible environment for everyone to dance in. We strive to foster a joyous atmosphere where everyone has a place to express themselves freely and without judgment. In pursuit of this, we hold 5 key values nearest to us that we think help accomplish our mission.

These 5 values are as follows:

Inclusivity.jpg

Inclusivity: Striving to create a studio space where all individuals feel welcomed and valued. QDC aims for the studio to be an accessible space where each and every dancer is able to be successful.

Encouragement.jpg

Encouragement: In the studio, dancers are bound by their love for dance. At QDC, dancers use their shared passion to encourage and uplift each other, creating a positive space for all.

Health.jpg

Health: QDC recognizes that health looks different to everyone. At QDC dancers are able to participate in class to the best of their own individual abilities, using dance as a way to foster physical and mental wellness by moving their bodies and remaining active.

Friendship.jpg

Friendship: Creating a space where we not only work together as dancers, but we get to know each other and grow together as friends. At QDC we want dancers to build meaningful relationships that transfer outside of the studio as well.

Leadership.jpg

Leadership: At QDC we want dancers to feel comfortable taking on leadership roles inside and outside of the studio. This means using the confidence gained from dance to inspire others and advocate for those around us.
