Shae-Lynn Perreault

Introduction to Highland teacher

I am super excited to be teaching QDC’s first ever highland class this year! Whether you have been competing in highland for years or have to google what it is, everyone is welcome!! My class style will usually start with a jumping/cardio warmup and then we will either work on one of the set dances or several different basic highland movements, depending on dancers’ abilities. The goal of the class will be to provide dancers with an opportunity to learn more about highland dance and and to improve upon technique and stamina/fitness for those already trained, while still having so much fun! Previous dance experience (in any style) is recommended but not necessary!

What does dance mean to you?

Dance has played such a pivotal role in my life from a young age until now and I couldn’t be more thankful for it. No matter what was going on in my life I could always turn to dance and my teachers/friends for support and stress relief. Dance taught me how to be disciplined, how to work hard and how to lose graciously. To me, dance is a creative emotional and physical outlet that has helped me grow and take risks, even if I make mistakes. Through dance, I have made lifelong friends, and have gained the self- confidence and maturity that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. When I’m dancing, I feel happy and at home.

What is your favourite YouTube channel? My favourite dance related youtube channel is definitely Kyle Hanagami… amazing LA choreographer and nobody else makes me wish I could do hiphop more. But I also have to say how amazing of a channel sailing la vagabonde is… it’s a series of vlogs from an Australian couple who have been sailing the world for 5 years. You could say I live vicariously through them.

What is the theme song of your life? “Life’s What You Make It” by Hannah Montana

What is your most memorable dance experience? My most memorable dance experience was definitely getting to perform in the Cleveland Ohio Tattoo last summer with my studio and a local pipe band. Although smaller than Edinburgh Tattoo (highland dancers will know), I got to dance an amazing choreography beside my dance friends and my cousin in the pouring rain, which is definitely an something I’ll always remember!
