beginner/Intermediate contemporary teacher
Beginner/Intermediate contemporary will be a safe and supportive space to explore movement and expression! We will be learning how to translate emotions and feelings into the creative outlet of contemporary. The focus will be on connecting our mind to our bodies and challenging conventional ideas of the way we can move. Contemporary is a wonderful experience because there is no experience necessary, and no set ideas about how we should be dancing! The class will involve guided warm-ups, combinations, improvisation, free movement, and the most exciting part… a mid- year and year end recital group piece! Together we will have fun, make friends, and hopefully learn something about ourselves along the way.

What does dance mean to you? Dance gives me a way to express all the thoughts and feelings I sometimes have a hard time expressing in words. It has given me the freedom to be true to myself, and has always been extremely cathartic. Whenever I have stressors in my life, dance gives me a chance to catch my breath and focus on movement. The feeling of getting lost in the music and committing yourself wholeheartedly to dancing is unparalleled in this world. Despite change and hard times, dance is always there to catch me when I fall.
What is your favorite youtube channel? My favourite youtube channel is definitely Tasty! The food always looks sooo yummy and it gives me inspiration to be a better cook (although most of the time I just save the videos and forget to ever try the recipes…).
What is the theme song of your life? The theme song of my life is Book Club by the Arkells! When I first heard this song, I was really surprised by how accurate it was to my personality, especially because of the girl’s love of books in the song!
Most memorable dance experience? My most memorable dance experience was performing as Snow White in my previous dance studio’s year end recital. The show focused on the youngest dancers at the studio, and really brought back what dance is all about… having fun, and performing to friends family! It was really special to bring her character to life on stage.
Dance Training and Experience:
I began dancing at the age of two in a mom and tot class ! I became a competitive dancer at the age of six, and I have 17 years of dance studio training. I have competed at various dance competitions over the years, competing for Protege Dance Company in Ajax in my last six years. I have also participated in numerous dance conventions and themed shows. I have trained in contemporary, tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical, and ballet. As well, I was a dance class assistant and substitute dance teacher in my last few years of high school. Last year, I was a member of the Performance Team and I can’t wait to continue with QDC this year!
